About the Opportunity
The EU Delegation to the International Organisations in Vienna is offering funded traineeships for young graduates in the UN, OSCE, and Non-Proliferation sections. Traineeships are for up to 6 months, starting February/March or April 2025, subject to budget availability.
Sections and Responsibilities
1. Traineeship in the UN Section
Key Responsibilities:
- Assisting in meeting preparation and diplomatic activities.
- Drafting briefings, reports, and EU statements.
- Note-taking during meetings.
- Supporting public diplomacy activities.
Focus Areas: Nuclear issues, drugs and crime, outer space, and development.
2. Traineeship in the OSCE Section
Key Responsibilities:
- Monitoring OSCE dimensions: politico-military, economic, environmental, and human rights.
- Assisting in EU coordination and outreach.
- Drafting EU statements and reports.
- Conducting research on EU and OSCE topics.
Focus Areas: Security, cybercrime, terrorism, and conflict resolution.
3. Traineeship in the Non-Proliferation Section
Key Responsibilities:
- Supporting multilateral non-proliferation agendas.
- Drafting briefings, reports, and statements.
- Representing the EU in international fora.
- Participating in public diplomacy.
Focus Areas: Nuclear non-proliferation, export controls, and global security.
Eligibility and Qualifications
- Education: Master’s degree in International Relations, European Studies, International Law, or similar fields.
- Skills:
- Interest in EU external action and multilateral diplomacy.
- Proficiency in English; knowledge of French, Russian, or other UN languages is an asset.
- Strong drafting and note-taking abilities.
- Experience: Prior experience with international organizations or diplomatic missions is a plus.

Important information to read before applying
Before applying you are requested to examine the dedicated website as well as the general eligibility criteria for a paid traineeship (Article 8 of the Decision ADMIN(2017)28 – Paid traineeship).
Each selected trainee will receive a monthly grant to cover living expenses. As an indication, 2024 monthly grants are published here. These amounts may be revised for traineeships starting in 2025. All costs related to travels, visa, insurance, accommodation must be borne by the trainee.
Applications from non-eligible candidates will not be considered. After the evaluation of all applications, shortlisted candidates will be contacted and invited for an interview. Unsuccessful candidates will be notified by email. In case the selected candidates are not able to present the required documents, their application will be rejected. Applications not respecting the instruction on how to apply (format CV, length motivation letter, subject of email) will not be considered.
The traineeships can only be offered in compliance with the local legislation as well as the legislation of the country of origin.
Citizens from EU Member states:
- must provide proof that they will be covered against the risk of a pandemic and the costs of repatriation;
- must hold a relevant entrance visa and / or temporary residence permit where applicable, based on the traineeship agreement, the duration of the traineeship, and in compliance with the local legislation.
