The One Young World Academy is a globally recognized e-learning platform designed to equip young leaders with the tools to create meaningful change. This special Academy series, in partnership with the Gates Foundation, focuses on addressing critical global health challenges through innovation, advocacy, and collaboration.
About the Course
The Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation’s Global Health Division is dedicated to reducing health inequities by developing tools and strategies that combat infectious diseases and address the leading causes of child mortality in developing countries.
This Academy series will cover four key global health focus areas:
- Polio Eradication
- Malaria Eradication
- Family Planning
- Maternal, Newborn, and Child Health (MNCH)

Who Can Apply?
- Age: 18 – 35 years old.
- Profession: Private/public sector, politics, or activism.
- Eligibility: Must be from or currently residing in Niger, Senegal, the Democratic Republic of Congo, Burkina Faso, or Côte d’Ivoire.
- Interest: Passionate about advancing global health, with a focus on malaria eradication, polio eradication, family planning, or MNCH.
Course Structure
Final Project:
Participants will submit a video or essay based on one of the course themes. Eight outstanding submissions will earn a place at the One Young World Summit 2025 and receive a year-long development opportunity through the Global Leadership Programme and Action Accelerator.

- Malaria Eradication: Challenges, opportunities, and success stories from Africa.
- Polio Eradication: Insights into the history, strategies, and community roles in combating polio.
- Family Planning: Innovative, culturally sensitive programs transforming lives.
- Maternal, Newborn, and Child Health: Strategies to improve health outcomes and reduce mortality rates.

- Essay/Video Submission Deadline: 23 May 2025.
