The Strategic Partnerships Division (SPD) strengthens UN Women’s partnerships with governments, private sector entities, and other stakeholders, positioning gender equality and women’s empowerment (GEWE) as key priorities in international forums. Similarly, the Communications & Advocacy Section, based at UN Women’s headquarters in New York, drives global awareness through high-quality digital and social media content to cement UN Women’s status as a leader in this field.
UN Women is seeking a Social Media Specialist to spearhead strategies, policies, and activities across its social media platforms, particularly focusing on the Beijing+30 campaign. This pivotal role provides guidance and training to colleagues worldwide, ensuring that UN Women’s mission and initiatives achieve global reach and engagement.
Key Responsibilities
Social Media Strategy Development and Implementation
- Design and execute social media strategies for significant campaigns such as Beijing+30 and key international events like International Women’s Day.
- Oversee the creation of high-quality social media assets in collaboration with the multimedia team.
- Disseminate comprehensive social media packages to support global campaigns and initiatives.
- Provide detailed analytics and performance reports on social media activities.
Daily Social Media Management
- Manage daily outreach on platforms including X, Instagram, Facebook, and LinkedIn to amplify UN Women’s work.
- Monitor global social media channels, ensuring active community engagement and increased audience interaction.
- Identify and leverage trending topics and campaigns to position UN Women’s message effectively.
- Research and implement advanced tools for social media management and analytics.
Global Coordination and Technical Support
- Support UN Women’s Field Offices by amplifying regional content on global channels and ensuring alignment with global priorities.
- Offer technical guidance on social media account management to colleagues worldwide.
- Develop and regularly update guidance notes for platform-specific social media use.
- Troubleshoot account access issues and ensure consistency across regional activations.
Capacity Building and Advocacy
- Conduct training sessions for UN Women staff to optimize their use of social media tools.
- Present UN Women’s social media strategies and successes to other UN entities, especially in relation to Beijing+30, to strengthen internal advocacy.
Supervisory and Managerial Responsibilities
- Supervise 1–2 consultants focused on social media outreach.
- Collaborate closely with the editorial and multimedia teams under the supervision of the Deputy Chief of Communications & Advocacy.

Qualifications
Education
- Master’s degree in Communications, Journalism, International Affairs, or related fields.
- Alternatively, a bachelor’s degree with two additional years of experience may be accepted.
Experience
- At least 5 years of international-level experience in social media management.
- Demonstrated success in creating and implementing social media strategies.
- Experience in writing, editing, and producing content tailored to international audiences.
- Proficiency with advanced social media tools such as HootSuite.
- Familiarity with fast-paced communications environments is an advantage.
Languages
- Fluency in English (written and oral) is required.
- Knowledge of French, Spanish, or another UN language (e.g., Chinese, Russian, Arabic) is desirable.
