Overview
The Excellence Scholarship & Opportunity Programme (ESOP) at ETH Zurich is designed to support outstanding Master’s students with financial assistance, mentorship, and networking opportunities provided by the ETH Foundation. The scholarship aims to cover all study and living costs during the course of the Master’s degree.
Key Details:
- Application Period: November 1 – November 30, 2024, 11:59h (MEZ).
- Eligibility:
- Applicants must have an excellent Bachelor’s degree (top 10% of their programme).
- Only students applying for a Master’s degree are eligible. ETH Bachelor students applying for a consecutive Master’s programme are also eligible.
- Applicants must be reachable by phone/VC, as an interview may be part of the selection process in February.
- Those already enrolled in a Master’s programme at ETH Zurich or holding a Master’s degree are not eligible.
Application Process:
- Applications for the ESOP are submitted through eApply, the online platform for Master’s applications at ETH Zurich. This applies to both external applicants and ETH Bachelor students.
- In addition to the standard Master’s admission documents, applicants need to upload a pre-proposal for their Master’s thesis. The pre-proposal must adhere to scientific citation practices and be original. Plagiarism or misinformation will lead to disqualification.
- References: If the study programme does not request references, applicants must provide the names of two professors, who will submit reference letters upon request.
Scholarship Benefits:
- Financial Support: CHF 12,000 per semester to cover living and study expenses.
- Tuition Fee Waiver: The scholarship also includes a full waiver of tuition fees.
- Duration: The scholarship is awarded for the regular duration of the Master’s programme, typically 3 or 4 semesters, depending on the programme. ETH Bachelor students may start the ESOP while on leave of absence.
Selection Process:
- Approximately 60 ESOP scholarships will be assigned for the 2025/26 academic year.
- The selection is managed by the Admissions Committees of the respective Master’s programmes, with the final decision resting with the Rector of ETH Zurich.
- Decision Timeline: Scholarship decisions are communicated by the end of March.
